What is Hard Lotion?

What is Hard Lotion?

Hard lotion is what it sounds: a solid bar of lotion that protects, moisturizes, and heals your dry skin. It is a great product, and can easily be made at home for the DIY savvy.

Hard lotion, also known as a lotion bar, is typically made with 3-4 types of ingredients.

1. Carrier oil or oils: think coconut, olive, apricot, or almond oil, or a combination of two.

2. Plant butter: popular plant butters like shea butter or cocoa butter are great choices, or choose something a bit more exotic like mango butter.

3. Wax: The wax holds it all together and gives the hard lotion bar staying power by sealing in the moisture gained from the oils + butters. Most frequently beeswax is used, but alternative vegan waxes such as candelilla, soy, or carnauba wax.

And who doesn’t love a little aromatherapy from our skincare?

4. Essential oils are an optional addition to any lotion bar and can even add healing properties to the final product.

To use a hard lotion, simply hold the lotion bar in your hand and rub lightly wherever your skin needs some deep moisturizing love. You'll find that it warms to your touch, and a little goes a long way. It’s best to keep hard lotion in a hard-sided container like a tin, making it portable and unsquished.

Hard lotion can last through multiple hand washings, and it heals dry patches, wintered hands, and cracked knuckles. It can even help limit eczema flareups when used preventatively.

LB Love Organics has two sizes of hard lotion bars in a variety of scents. We also offer an unscented option with no added essential oils for those with very sensitive skin.

We recommend our LB Love Organics hard lotion bars to anyone who struggles with severely dry hands, cuticles, elbows, or feet.

How about you? Have you ever made your own lotion bar?
